Skiing & snowboarding
An extensive range of winter activities is available: skiing, snowboarding, walking, ice-skating, ice-climbing, dog sledding, and even heli-skiing if you're brave enough! There are extensive, well-marked paths both locally and throughout the area where you can go cross-country skiing, or walking with raquettes (snow shoes).
The local Combloux ski area covers 100km of ski runs between 1100 and 1930m altitude, and has 37 lifts and 62 pistes. There is a also a designated snow-park for boarders with
jumps, and there are two protected tobogganing slopes. Access to all this is just a few minute's walk from the apartment! The ski pass for this area is very good value and it's all open from 16 December 2006 to 15 April 2007.
La Cry, at the base of the local ski area, leads to beautiful and uncrowded tree-lined runs and superb views of Mont Blanc. The varied slopes - 6 blacks, 28 reds, 17 blues et 11 greens - easily satisfy families
or mixed groups of skiers and boarders. Plus, Combloux has beautiful mountain restaurants for lunch or just a drink.
La Cry is just three minutes from the apartment. Further up the road, at the very top, is an area called Le Cuchet with two delightful restaurants and more parking spaces. There is often floodlit skiing during the week on the main slope above La
Cry.
The Princesse lift, on the outskirts of Combloux is just 3km away. Here the Megève/St
Gervais day pass covers another 90 pistes and 300km of skiing.
Altogether in just this area, you can access over 450km of runs including Combloux, La Giettaz, Megève (Mont d’Arbois, Bettex, Mont Joux, Mont Joly, Rochebrune, Cote 2000), St Gervais, Les Contamines and Cordon. They are all easily accessible and have their own
characteristics. Whatever the weather, whatever the snow conditions, and whether it's high or low season, you will always find somewhere to ski.
Take a look at the resorts listed on the right for more information. All these
resorts are within a 30 minute drive of the apartment.
This is only part of a truly vast Mont Blanc region including other well-known resorts like
Chamonix (30km away) and Argentière, that are quickly accessible by car from the apartment. Combloux is uniquely located for both Mont Blanc views and road access to the other resorts. Of course, good snow can never be guaranteed but with this geography and incredible choice, if there's snow in the Alps, you're certain to find it here.
Local services
There is a free ski bus service that runs between Combloux village centre and La Cry, which operates all day while the slopes are open.
You can buy your lift passes at La Cry or in the Tourist Office in the centre of the
village, and on-line at http://forfaits.megeve.com/jaillet/.
We have a local English representative that will meet you, tell you about the area and provide ski guiding. Marin Sport is a ski shop at the base of the slopes and they have a larger shop in the village, both offering a 20% discount to our guests.
